Mountain Golf Courses of New England

It has been a great ski/snowboard season in New England, but most of us are ready for spring and summer by now.

Here at Mountain Adventures New England we love the ski resorts of the North East! Great snow, great people, and beautiful views! And now that spring is (hopefully) arriving soon, we’ll be able to take advantage of these spectacular views as the trees start to sprout their leaves and the flowers start to blossom.

What better place to enjoy this than on the beautiful country clubs and golf courses in the same mountains we love so much in the wintertime?!
Sunday River Country Club

Preparing for Next Ski Season

It is never too early to start thinking about next season! Yeah, yeah. I know! There are still some mountains open getting in a few last days, but, like I said: it’s never too early.

Your equipment now has another season of love on it, so there are some steps to be taken and some decisions to be made.

First, proper storage of your skis or board over the summer is important for longevity.

The base of your skis can start to oxidize with prolonged exposure to oxygen. Over time this will reduce their ability to absorb wax, leading to further decay. Sad story.
If you tune your own skis, follow the steps in our post on waxing ,but instead use a storage wax and leave the buildup of wax on the bases for over the summer.

If you are not one to tune your own equipment, find a reputable ski shop and have them clean, tune, and apply storage wax. They’ll know what to do.

When it comes to the actual storage location for your skis or board over the summer, you must consider temperature and humidity. Don’t store your equipment were you wouldn't want to spend the summer! Avoid the extreme climates of attics, garages, or basements. These can be too dry, hot, or have too much moisture.

This is also a good time to replace any equipment.
Check your local ski shops for end of season deals.

The next item on the to do list is obtaining next seasons lift pass. You'll get the best rates if you buy it early! And what’s to lose? You know you’re gonna buy it eventually!

The New England Pass is a great option. It covers Sugarloaf, Loon, Sunday River.  But be sure to purchase your pass by April 30th to lock in the most savings.
The IKON Pass

Have you heard of the IKON Pass? This pass gives you access to 26 resorts around the country! And not just for winter sports. If you jump on board early enough you will be able to take advantage of the various spring and summer activities most of these resorts offer.
Again, time is ticking! Only 3 more days to get a discount on the Child IKON pass! (April 9th).

You'll be able to ski Attitash, Big Boulder, Jack Frost, Crotched, Hunter, Mount Snow, and Wildcat under the Peak Pass this next season for a very reasonable price. Explore their options and drop a down payment before April 30th to get the best deal.

These are just a few options for package deals. Let us know in the comments what other lift pass deals you know of.

Enjoy the last days of this ski season and prepare for the next!

Snow is Melting: Plan a Fishing Trip!

It is certainly beginning to feel like spring all around New England! The Spring Equinox was on March 20th, but Easter weekend always feels like the actual start of spring to me.

Some areas of New Hampshire and Maine will be displaying true, New England weather this morning with chances of rain and cooler temperatures.
Don’t let that stop you from taking a drive and enjoying the afternoon in the mountains!

With a lot of ski resorts winding down for the season, it’s time to start planning other forms of Mountain Adventures.

    Saco River, NH
Have you ever been fishing in the White Mountains?

Here are some beautiful locations to visit if you are in search of Rainbow, Brown, or Brook trout:

Swift River along the Kancamagus Highway
East and West Branches of the Pemigewasset
    The Saco River
    The Ellis River
    Wildcat Rivers
    The Ammonoosuc River

Be sure to check here for licensing to fish in New Hampshire.

Take some time to explore the hiking trails around these waterways.

    But be careful!
The serene beauty might swallow you up and never let you leave!
